The Greenes in Cuba

Hola mi amigos y familia,

Debbie, the team and I are just getting back to the States from our mission trip to Cuba. You will be glad to know that all the medical supplies, hygiene items and Christian materials made it through customs and into the hands of the people. That was a huge answer to prayer. In a land in need of everything, they were very thankful for your beautiful expressions of love, a fragrant aroma to the Lord. Everything is hard to get there.

We hit the ground running at the Pinar del Rio Seminario by teaching pastors, missionaries, evangelists and students the Book of Romans or as they say Romanos. They come from all over the country for these intensive two week courses and then go home to implement what they learn. Once the course was over, the wives joined their husbands for a pastors conference at which Debbie and I did a marriage seminar. If we weren’t teaching, we were coaching, mentoring, counseling couples who are under great stress in their settings. They have great joy in the midst of their affliction.

We travelled the 100 miles from Pinar del Rio to Havana, the capital, to meet with the Charges d'Affaires, the acting U.S. Ambassador, Mike Hammer, to petition the embassy for visas for some of our  pastors to study in the U.S. and to pray for him in his work of protecting religious freedom. By the grace of God, the church is growing in Cuba even though its government has informants attending the churches and reporting what is being said. Their courage in the face of persecution is inspiring.

In Havana we met with Ramon, the president of the Methodist Seminary, Daniel, the executive director of the Spanish Gospel World Mission and Esteban, the Senior Pastor of the Baptist Church of Moa. Esteban and Daniel told us the faith story behind the church of Moa. Back in 1999, some Christians in Texas decided to give the church the resources to build a Texas size church in Moa. When the church was nearly completed, the local government made charges that they were using illegal foreign money, they committed fraud and deception and they would have to surrender the property to the government. The church prayed 24/7 for 70 days and the government relented. Today the five story church is the largest building in Moa. It has 21 church plants and planters,  a seminary, 93 small groups and 2000 people, some of whom walk 8 to 10 miles to get to church. Esteban would like to partner with us.

The only way we can continue to make trips like this is if you begin or continue to give to Greene Ministries by using the QR code at the bottom of the page and sending your donation to The New Horizons Foundation. The door is currently open in Cuba but we don’t know how long we have before this door closes.

If there is anything we can do for you, please reach out to us at RGreeneMinistries@gmail.com

Yours and His,

Debbie and R. Dallas Greene
